PTA Fast-Tracks 5G Licenses for Nationwide Launch Ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr
Pakistan is officially accelerating its entry into the 5G era, with the national telecom regulator aggressively fast-tracking commercial licenses for a nationwide rollout before Eid-ul-Fitr. The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, PTA, is pushing for the next-generation networks to be up and running within weeks.
Following the recent spectrum auction, the regulator has now fully prepared the licensing documents. Officials are expecting to hand these documents over to the three winning telecom operators sometime next week. The rollout strategy has b͏een coordinated to a high degree.
Authorities are explicitly granting the licenses simultaneously; this is to ensure all three companies are able to launch their competing services across the entire country at the exact same time. The timeline is currently being dictated by strict financial prerequisites.
Before securing their final paperwork, every operator has to submit a mandatory bank guarantee of $15 million to the PTA,. One telecom company has already cleared what is a critical financial hurdle. The remaining two operators are in the process of finalizing their submissions and are expected to deposit their guarantees shortly, hopefully. But the telecom companies’ technical teams are not waiting.
Industry sources have confirmed tha͏t companies already are executing aggressive preparations at ground level, all so they can get commercial services activated the instant the regulatory go-ahead is given. The federal government is pushing hard for what is, essentially, a pre-Eid target.
Officials are currently organizing a formal handover ceremony at the PTA headquarters in Islamabad. This high-profile event represents the final bureaucratic checkpoint. Once the licenses are physically distributed, Pakistan's telecom sector will immediately initiate commercial 5G operations, unlocking massive upgrades in mobile internet speeds and national digital infrastructure
